SUMMARY

  • The average Greenhouse Gas Emissions (GHG) were calculated for various water and solid waste PFAS treatment technologies.
  • Solid waste treatment technologies included stabilization, landfill, thermal desorption and soil washing.
  • Two different scenarios were used to compare the GHG emissions for solid waste treatment technologies:
    • 5 x 55-gallon drums of soil
    • 10,000 cubic yards of soil
  • As a leading stabilization technology vendor, RemBind provided substantial GHG emissions field data for the study.
  • PFAS stabilization had the lowest carbon footprint compared to all other technologies tested across both treatment scenarios.
  • The low carbon footprint of PFAS stabilization in soils and solid wastes is consistent with a circular economy approach.
