SUMMARY

  • In this study, the longevity of RemBind® was assessed across a wide range of pH conditions.
  • Two commonly prescribed test methods, the ASLP and the US EPA LEAF, were applied to quantify the leaching of a wide range of PFASs from treated soils under pH conditions pH 2 to 12.
  • RemBind® retained PFASs strongly in the remediated soils (> 99% for most PFASs) across a broad range of pH conditions.
  • Remediation of PFAS-contaminated soils with RemBind® is considered robust and durable in terms of changes in soil pH, with little risk of subsequent PFASs desorption under normal environmental pH conditions.
  • Ultimately, to give regulators and site owners the greatest level of confidence that the immobilisation with RemBind® is stable for the long term, the study recommends that it should also be tested under repeated cycles of leaching and under different environmental conditions (e.g. ionic strength, organic matter, extreme temperatures).
