RemBind® Containment Barriers(RCBs)

PFAS in Surface Water Moves Fast

Contaminated runoff can leave a site in a single storm event, and once it has crossed the boundary it cannot be recalled. Traditional controls are often too slow to mobilise, too costly, or simply unsuited to a drainage line that has to keep operating.

The RemBind® Containment Barrier (RCB) is a passive, in-channel barrier that immobilises PFAS as water flows through it – no pumps, no power, no excavation and no engineering works. It sits directly in the channel, treats water where the problem is, and needs minimal ongoing maintenance.

It is a direct, practical response to PFAS in active drainage lines that cannot be shut down.

How The RCB Works

Treatment is provided by RemBind® Sorbents held within replaceable recharge cells inside the outer shell. Cells are exchanged in place, with no excavation and without removing the structure.

In storm events, flow that exceeds treatment capacity crests the barrier and passes safely over the top, rather than pooling or damming the channel.

RCBs are deployed in series so water is treated multiple times, reducing PFAS load at each successive unit.

Supplied to Suit Your Requirements

RemBind® products are supplied in a range of formats and delivery methods to suit your specific project requirements.

From smaller packaged volumes through to bulk supply and pneumatic delivery, we offer flexible options that support efficient handling, transport, and application. Each supply method is designed to align with site conditions, project scale, and operational needs, ensuring a practical and efficient approach across a wide range of remediation scenarios.

Simple Deployment

Size

Our technical team assesses flow, channel geometry and expected flux to determine barrier format, unit count and spacing.

Place

Barriers are laid perpendicular to flow and positioned in series along the channel.

Anchor

Anchor pegs secure the unit in position. The 500 mm format uses carry handles for confined or hand placement; the bulk bag is placed by excavator.

Recharge

Spent cells are exchanged in place, with no excavation and no removal of the outer shell.

High Flow Configuration

Some sites see higher-energy flow, or have a larger channel than the standard RCB is designed for. For these, RemBind® recharge cells can be deployed inside gabion baskets positioned within the drainage line.

Each cell carries its own pre-treatment, primary capture and polishing zones, and stacking cells within a structure multiplies residence time within the media.

Bulk format pre-packs cells into a bulk bag that is deployed into the structure and lifted out once approaching capacity, by excavator. Faster to deploy at scale — the whole unit is swapped rather than individual cells.
