SYNOPSIS
  • This study was totally independent and performed by a world class soil research group at the University of Adelaide.
  • This study tested the sorption of PFOA by graphene oxide, iron oxide-modified graphene and RemBind®.
  • Variations in pH and ionic strength did not significantly influence PFOA-sorption by RemBind® or iron oxide modified graphene.
  • It was concluded that the risk of remobilisation of bound PFOA owing to rainfall events is low, but the presence of polar organic solvents may increase leaching risk.
  • The potential of using mixed’ adsorbents like RemBind in‑situ for PFAS-remediation was highlighted, as it provides avenues for enhanced sorption through multiple mechanisms.
